Skoki Duze - Łomianki

 16 July

 70 Miles.

Another day following the Vistula, this time to the northern outskirts of Warsaw.  The weather wasn’t always kind, with some sharp thundery showers that would come out of nowhere.  But pleasant enough riding.  My route took me through some forests north of Warsaw and through some very nice areas with big houses.  No doubt the erstwhile dachas of the Polish Communist Politburo, and then the ill gotten gains of the Kleptocrat Polish Oligarchs who got to buy up most of Poland on the cheap when things were in turmoil.  I guess their descendants still live there now in some style .  Anyhow, it was a nice bit of the world.  My hotel was a bit of a shock, because it was also a beauty salon and spa, but with very nice rooms.  I wondered whether I should have a facial, or a nail job, or a Brazilian.  I just stuck to the room, which was very modern with all conveniences.  They even let me take my bike to my room for safe keeping across all their lovely white marble floors.  Dinner was next door at, I guess, an Italian place - steak tartar and then tagliatelle with mushrooms, al dente and with all the right things. Very, very nice. My dessert was a pierogi with black cherries, a bit sharp and a bit heavy.  Pierogi are dumplings / ravioli Polish style, either savoury or sweet.  But ‘pesante” and liable to settle in the stomach all night. They appear on all the menus, so must be popular here.  Not my favourite.
