On holiday (again !) for our summer break with the
usual group, and as per usual in France. I think
you’d call here Dordogne borders if you were trying
to sell your gite, but it is really the Limousin,
just south of Limoges. Ryanair flies to Limoges, so
handy if you have a place like this just under an
hour south of Limoges airport. The place we are
renting is an old presbytery - Presbytere Saint
Joseph - in the little hamlet of Pierrefiche which
is near Thiviers. Thiviers is the capital of foie
gras and it is a big duck, foie gras, and beef
area. Certainly when eating out there is a lot of
duck and its various bits (gesiers / gizzards) on
offer. Le Presbytere is a four bedroomed house,
with nice outdoor terraces. The decor is rural
French, which means a bit tatty and a bit
cluttered, but it suits our purposes and we are
able to spend most of the time outdoors enjoying
the weather and eating our home cooked meals on the
terraces. And, what with having to drive if we go
out, and the unrivaled expertise of our home
cooking (Richard et moi), it is often better to
stay at home and enjoy our own culinary
creations.
