Summer /August 2005, off we went to the south of France to a little hilltop hamlet called Plassenous, west of Montpellier, east of Carcassone and just north of Beziers and Narbonne. We'd found the let through the Church Times. It was owned by a couple, she a Swedish artist, he English (sadly John Pattison died in September 2005). The Swedish influence was evident in the very clean, clear lines of the inside of the house which had been renovated by the Pattisons over the last number of year. The Presbytere was the old priest's house, which was next to the church, and had been extensively renovated and extended. Christina Pattison's bold and colourful painting bedecked the walls.
Richard, David and myself were there for the duration, Michael joining us via a flight to Montpellier for the middle stretch, and also my sister Jenny and partner Michael for a few days as they travelled through France. Also, for a day or so a friend of Michael's from Nice who then took Michael on for a few more days to Nice.
Lots of good food, wine, sitting around, and for me lots of biking having overcome disasters with bikes on the way and purchase of new bike in Folkestone before getting on the ferry !
An isolated little hamlet, Plassenous is up the hill whichever way you want to get to it - a ten minute haul in the car, forty minutes on the bike !
